How are Devices Connected in IoT?

0

One of the things that many people don’t know is that IoT (internet of things) devices interconnect in en number of ways or different ways and it uses more than 100s of different protocols. Other reasons for this are because they connect depending on what they are and where they are and what other devices and systems they need to connect to and what they have to communicate. You will not find any one best protocol that is needed, which is important the common language used to divert or deliver the messages or IoT device connection from one IoT device to another. The correct choice always depends on the specific needs of the applications. Besides that, there are also restrictions that need to be considered.

IoT Mechanism

Some of the constraints are what is the power budget of the device? What are the limitations of cost? What are the needs like physical size, and time to market? Security, geographic regions, and remote maintenance. Let’s look at the components of IoT device communications. While the smart IoT system comes in many several architectures, but most of them comprise of the following mechanism.

IoT device is something or anything from a tiny temperature sensor to a big industrial robot. Then, comes the local communication or connection, in which the devices are used to speak with the neighboring devices. After that, comes the application protocol, which is the framework that defines how the information content is transferred. Then comes the gateway which translates and re-transmits the information that is commonly linked with the local device network to the internet. Network servers are a system that handles the transmission and acceptance of the IoT data which is commonly located inside the cloud data center. Cloud applications – process IoT data into useful information for presentation to the users. Lastly, the user interface in which people see the IoT information, then they change it and issue commands back to the IoT devices.

IoT Devices

When people talk about the IoT devices it mostly means that they are refereeing to stuff like environmental sensors, appliances connected, car trackers or even assembly line machines. While the IoT device is not any electronic device that can communicate with the internet, we don’t mean the general use of computers or mobile phones.

Most commonly we are concentrating on devices with a steeper purpose like controlling the lights in your home or intelligent thermostatic radiator valve or tracking tank levels for the creation of chemicals.

Connecting Wireless Devices

Several devices are there that were not originally made with the capabilities of the internet and should be modified with the after-market solutions to become linked. However, the capabilities of IoT are increasingly being designed correctly into novice devices, where they can lower the costs and enhance functionality greatly. While there is a variation in the IoT devices and it varies depending on the need where they are created to fulfill some fundamental components are always included comprising of the following for instance.

The IoT device consists of sensors to identify the physical occurrence like water leak or motion, there can also be actuators that create a physical change like closing a valve or turning on the light. Such devices and actuators will connect with one or more microprocessors running the logic that drives the IoT functionality. Besides that, being a linked device, it should have at least a single communication component, either some type of radio or a wired communication method like Ethernet. IoT devices are most of the time battery operated, making power handling a key consideration when choosing equipment, functionality, designing, and creating connection strategies.
